The Pauline Year 2008-2009

The Vatican declared 28 June 2008 to 29 June 2009 the Pauline Year to celebrate 2000 years of St. Paul. In line with this celebration, the Vatican chose Jubilee churches in the world where pilgrims can acquire plenary indulgence.

In the Philippines, two churches were chosen as Jubilee churches for Christian pilgrims:  Sts. Peter and Paul Parish Church and St. Paul, the Apostle Church at the St. Paul Seminary. Both are located in Makati.

To gain plenary indulgence, there are sacrifices that you have to do.

  1. Receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation this year.
  2. Celebrate the Holy Eucharist at any Pauline Jubilee Church and receive the Holy Communion.
  3. Pray for the intentions of Pope Benedict.
  4. Do acts of charity or works of mercy.
If you wish to visit Sts. Peter and Paul Church, the schedule of masses are:
  • Mondays to Saturdays, 6:00 AM, 7:00 AM, and 6:30 PM
  • Sundays, 6:00 AM, 7:00 AM, 8:00 AM, 9:00 AM, 10:00 AM, 5:00 PM, 6:00 PM, 7:00 PM, and 8:00 PM

Sts. Peter and Paul Parish Church is the Vicariate church of Makati. It is the oldest church in Makati. It was built by the Jesuits in the 16th century which also served as the Jesuit seminary then. During the war, it served as refuge to the American and Filipino soldiers. Old folks of Makati that there's a secret underground passage from the church going to the Pasig River.

The parish celebrates two Fiestas: June 29, Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul, and June 30, Feast of Our Lady of the Rose.

The church is located at D.M. Rivera Street, Poblacion, Makati City, Metro Manila.

D.M. Rivera is formerly P.P. Roxas Street, named after Pedro Roxas, the Spaniard to whom the King of Spain awarded the town of Makati. The town proper of Makati today is Poblacion; it was called San Pedro then and it occupied a larger area. The oldest street of San Pedro is now the A. Bonifacio Street in Poblacion. This oldest street is facing danger as it is planned to be removed from the map by the local and national government. A multi-national company is rumored to be behind this plan interested in developing this part of Makati as a commercial area that will complement the Rockwell Center.
