What You May Not Know About The Season of Lent

Image
The Liturgical Season of Lent The Gospels before the 1st week of Lent, i.e from Ash Wednesday to Friday, are constant regardless of the liturgical cycles (Year A, B, or C, Cycle I or II) The Alleluia is not prayed or sung during the Mass from Ash Wednesday until the Easter Vigil. There are 6 Sundays of Lent. The 6th Sunday is called Passion Sunday or Palm Sunday. Holy Week starts on Palm Sunday until the end of Lent, which is before the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Thursday evening. Thursday evening until Holy Saturday (before Easter vigil) is called the Easter Triduum.

St Andrew's Christmas Prayer

Image
Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born  of the most pure Virgin Mary  at midnight in Bethlehem,  in piercing cold.  In that hour, vouchsafe, O my God,  to hear my prayer and grant my desires  through the merits of Our Saviour Jesus Christ,  and of His Blessed Mother.  Amen. Pray this beautiful prayer 15 times a day starting on the Feast of St Andrew, 30th November until Christmas Eve.

Why Saint Jude Is Considered The Last Resort

Image
www.shrineofstjude.org His name is Judas Thaddeus. Thaddeus may be his nick name. Owing to the similarity of his name to that of Judas Iscariot, Saint Jude was rarely invoked in prayer. For that reason, interceding through him is seen as a final resort when all else failed. Thus, he became known as the patron saint of lost or desperate causes. Early translations of the New Testament changed his name to Jude Thaddeus to distinguish him from Judas Iscariot. Saint Jude's feast is commemorated every 28 October, together with Saint Simon, the Zealot. Jude and Simon are two of Jesus' twelve apostles mentioned in the gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. In Luke, Jude is described as the son of James, while in the Letter of Jude, he is described as the brother of James. The name Jude  is of Hebrew origin which means the praised one . The name Thaddeus means a courageous heart . Saint Jude Thaddeus's image is traditionally depicted with a Pentecost flame on his crown and ...

Christ In Us, Our Hope of Glory

Image
The theme song for the 51st International Eucharistic Congress held in Cebu City, Philippines on 24-31 January 2016. Christ In Us, Our Hope of Glory Lyrics and Music by Jay-arr Felisilda Librando Interpreted by Julie Anne San Jose and Nomer Limatog Jr We felt your word burning within us Your word unlocked The hardness of our hearts And opened our eyes That we may see you Hidden in the broken bread. Lord, you laid down your life As bread and wine we see Gave strength to our hearts And made us shine with glee When we eat the bread And drink the cup of wine We believe that Christ in us Is our hope of glory. You brought a ray of light And you rekindled our hope And led our hearts To yearn for your love For in you is our hope of glory. Lord, you laid down your life As bread and wine we see Gave strength to our hearts And made us shine with glee When we eat the bread And drink the cup of wine We believe that Christ in us Is our hope of glory. Through you...

What Is The Holy Eucharist?

Image
The Holy Eucharist is a sacrament and a sacrifice. In the Holy Eucharist, under the appearances of bread and wine, the Lord Christ is contained, offered, and received. The whole Christ is really, truly, and substantially present in the Holy Eucharist. We use the words "really, truly, and substantially" to describe Christ's presence in the Holy Eucharist in order to distinguish Our Lord's teaching from that of mere men who falsely teach that the Holy Eucharist is only a sign or figure of Christ, or that He is present only by His power. All Christians, with but few minor exceptions, held the true doctrine of the Real Presence from the time of Christ until the Protestant Revolution in the sixteenth century. The word " Eucharist " means " Thanksgiving ." Reference: EWTN Faith Teachings

Speaking Of Secrets

Image
Speaking of secrets. You don't owe every one your every story. There are stories that are better kept secret. Share your good news if it will inspire others, or even just to cheer them up, bring smile or laughter. If it is not worth sharing, just keep it to yourself. When you confide to someone, confidence is not assured 100%. Though it helps to confide to a friend, there is no guarantee that his lips are forever sealed. Whatever you have said in the dark will be said in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be proclaimed from the housetops. Luke 12:3 In business, trade secrets are not shared. A secret recipe, for example, or a secret ingredient of a recipe is better kept known to only you and those you trust. This is to protect your business. Otherwise, once your trade secret is stolen, it gives birth to your strongest competition. Bad deeds, however, are hard to keep. In time, it is going to stink and will be discovered. In the government, hypo...

Pope Francis Visits The Philippines

Image
Pope Francis is scheduled to visit, for the first time, the Philippines in 2015 January 15 to 19. His main purpose is to visit those afflicted by the typhoon Haiyan / Yolanda that devastated Tacloban on November 8, 2013. His itinerary includes only Manila and Leyte. He will be in Tacloban on January 17, and will celebrate The Eucharist at the Tacloban airport. Leyte would want to minimize visitors from neighboring regions because there are not enough hotels and accommodations in the province. There is no announced itinerary yet for Manila other than his visit to the University of Santo Thomas (UST). For the latest news about the Papal Visit, visit this website Papal Visit Philippines 2015 that was made specifically for the event. The Solemnity of St George

Today is The Solemnity of St George Luke 9:23-26 Today's Reading is from the Gospel of Luke. Then, speaking to all, he said, "If anyone wants to be a follower of mine, let him renounce himself and take up his cross every day and follow me. Anyone who wants to save his life will lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake, will save it. What benefit is it to anyone to win the whole world and forfeit or lose his very self? For if anyone is ashamed of me and of my words, of him the Son of man will be ashamed when he comes in his own glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels. Luke 9:23-26

Prayer For Direction

Lord God, It is not clear to me how I should spend my life. It is not clear to me the way I should go. I am often confused. So many attractive things hold out empty promises for happiness. Help me, through the prayers of Saint John Bosco, who was a friend to any young person in need. Help me to know your will for me, and give me the courage to follow. May I know the true joys that are only found in giving my life for others. Credits. Salesian Vocations Office Photo c/o Fotografik Mind

Prayer To Our Lady Of Lourdes

Image
from Wikimedia Commons Today, February 11, is the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes. The first apparition witnessed by the visionary Saint Bernadette Soubirous took place in Lourdes, France on February 11, 1858. The Prayer O Holy Virgin, in the midst of your days of glory Do not forget the sorrows of this earth. Cast a merciful glance upon those who are suffering, struggling against difficulties, with their lips constantly pressed against life's bitter cup. Have pity on those who love each other and are separated. Have pity on our rebellious hearts. Have pity on our weak faith. Have pity on those we love. Have pity on those who weep, on those who pray, on those who fear. Grant hope and peace to all. Amen.

Prayer To Saint John Bosco

Image
O Saint John Bosco , Father and teacher of youth, who, docile to the fits of the Spirit, passed on to the Salesian Family the wealth of your predilection for the humble and the poor. Teach us to become each day for them signs and bearers of the love of God , cultivating in our soul the same sentiments of Christ the Good Shepherd. Ask for the all the members of your Family, a good heart, tenacity of work, wisdom in discernment , courage to witness, a sense of Church, and missionary generosity. Obtain for us the grace of fidelity to the special covenant which the Lord has established with us. And grant that, guided by Mary, we may joyfully journey with young along the way that leads to love. Amen.

Prayer To Our Mother Of Mercy

Image
Hail Blessed Virgin Mary , our Mother and Queen of mercy;  we recognize that you are the great daughter of our Father wonderfully rich in love and compassion. Through you, He sent His only Son, Who in His Paschal mystery most completely revealed His mercy – love more powerful than death, evil and sin. As our life and our world face so many evils that threaten to mar God's design of love, we come with confidence to you, our Blessed Mother. Remind us of our Father, who has His mercy to all who call on Him in every generation. Bring us closer to your Son , Who preached and manifested to us this divine love. Make us aware of the Holy Spirit, Who inspires and empowers us to practice mercy to one another. Intercede always for us so that we may ever experience and express the divine mercy as we go through this valley of tears towards the mountain of the fullness of life. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
